If you have questions or concerns regarding a client please contact the office first, then we will notify the Case Manager or Support planner if necessary.

Personal Care Assistance’s (PCA) may not be the client’s representative. The representative is the person authorized by the client, on the form provided by the Department, to serve as a representative or "the individual who signs the Plan of Service on the client’s behalf, (COMAR 10.09.84.02(31Xa)(6))

If the client is involved in an incident, such as a fall without an injury, call the office right away and inform the nurse by dialing 240-755-5591. If the fall results in an injury or if there is a change mental status, please call 911 first and then call the office.

No service will be reimbursed while the client is admitted to a hospital, nursing facility, or institution for mental diseases, or an intermediate care facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities, attending a day program, or not with the PCA in the community. YOU CAN NOT CLOCK IN AT ALL. DHMH considers that double billing/fraud.
(COMAR 10.09.20.01(6)).

PCA can only be reimbursed if they are provided in the client’s presence.

Errands, including groceries or medications, cannot be reimbursed unless the client is escorted by the personal care assistant (COMAR 10.09.84.02(15)).

No service will be reimbursed if the client is traveling outside the state of Maryland for more than 14 days per calendar year (COMAR 10.09.84.23).

If you are going to miss time from work for more than one day call the office.

You must work the entire allotted weekly hours for the client. Pay week begins every Thursday and ends on Wednesday. Hours that are not completed in one week cannot be carried over to the following week.

Working less than the allotted hours will result in the client losing part of their hours when the annual review is done. It can also be considered neglect if you are constantly not completing the hours.

You are allowed four (4) missed clocks a month. If you exceed the four allowed missed clocks, DHMH will not approve/pay your hours.

PCA must use ISAS to record time worked (COMAR 10.09.84.24(A).
